Lavender Town "Missing Frequencies" Mystery

I met my best friend in elementary school. We had both brought our Gameboys to school one day and sat together at lunch once we realized what we had in common. I had Blue version and a Venusaur, he had Red version and a Charizard. He and I battled whenever we could and became great pals. As the years went on, we continued playing Pokemon, even through high school. Throughout all of the Pokemon generations and versions we went though, the battles never became dull.

As we approached college, we had to go separate ways. We didn't speak much after that; we had such busy lives to follow in college. I didn't think we would ever regain the friendship we once had. Then, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl were released in 2007 and we once again enjoyed our common interest in the series. We battled and talked over Wi-Fi nearly every day for a few weeks after its release.

My friend told me that he planned to play through his old Red version again. Since it had been about three months after the release of Diamond and Pearl, we didn't play them as much as before. I asked him why he wanted to play that dusty old cartridge, and he responded, "I don't know, maybe I'll find something that no one has found before."

Despite my unwillingness to run through my Blue version with him, he played his Red version anyway. After he started his journey, I never talked to him again. About three weeks later, I received a call from my friend's parents.

Even though he never had any similar problems before, he died from what was speculated to be an intense seizure. He was alone in his dorm room until a roommate, who was unfortunately too late, found him lying on the ground, lifeless, and strangely wearing his favorite headphones. I flew out as soon as I could to attend his funeral. His roommate, who was going to attend as well, informed me that just days before the incident my friend was becoming obsessed with Lavender Town and its music. My friend had aspired to become a sound engineer after graduating and had a wide range of audio skills at his disposal. He could always hear quiet sounds vividly while I failed to even recognize them at all.

As soon as he rediscovered Lavender Town, he ripped its audio to his computer and began experimenting with it. Interestingly, he bragged about finding a rare rip of the music from the first distributed batch of the Japanese-exclusive Green version. Not specifically referring to the special Japanese version, he had told the roommate that, "The frequencies in this song are different; they blend together in a special way. But there's something missing. I think something was meant to be mixed in, but it never could have worked on the Gameboy. It was so limited in terms of sound bandwidth." I had the chance to go through his laptop one last time, so I visited his Recent Items list. At the very top read "lavender.wav". Along with a few photos of us together, I copied this to my flash drive. Caught in my sadness over my best friend's death, I ignored the audio file until a few weeks before writing this. I somehow recently decided that I needed to retrace what had happened.

Driven by my desire to know what caused his untimely death, I opened the properties dialog box for the audio file, without opening the file to listen to it. Within the comments section of the metadata, he had written, "binaural tones, i added the necessary frequencies, i know why lavender town sounds so sad, and i know the part that was missing". Even eerier, I looked in his default audio program (still without listening to the file) and found the play-count for this file. One. I chatted with a sound enthusiast online in hope to decipher these cryptic comments. He gave me some special software which would analyze the audio in real time and said that was the most that could be done. This video is a screen recording of me running the aforementioned software with the original audio file. To this day I have not listened to the actual audio, as I am too emotionally disturbed by my best friend, Anthony's, death.

    3. The ghost is the Marowak Team Rocket allegedly killed. In Pokemon Red, you find him as a ghost in the Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town. Could this be the Ghost of Marowak?

As soon as the Unknowns spelled out "LEAVE NOW" and the audio got all demonic I said forget this and closed the window so fast.

  13. After the Unknown spell out "Leave Now" the music gets very unnerving, and the silence when the video ends is really eerie.

    1. I got a freaking headache from listening to this -_- besides the missing frequencies aren't fake because I installed a spectrogram on my ipod and played this song whit it, and the pictures are the exact same with the video... man did it creep me out... But that does not really mean that this song is the original, because if it was, I will never play pokemon with the word "lavender" in any part of the game ever again.

  27. I find this tune sorta relaxing sometimes. Don't get me wrong though, It never fails to give me headaches when i listen to it for more then ten minutes straight, and the other night (i swear that i am not lying, this rly happened. I hate those freaky pedos who ly on the internet. i promise im not lying.) My stomach started wrenching was i clicked a video on youtube to show my friends. It felt like a sick twist of the stomach flu and a cramp. I tried to ignore it for a while, but i found it rly unbearable so i told my friend, whom i was chatting to, BRB, and shut down my laptop. after five minutes of lying on my bed, i felt better..... creepy. I rly dont believe the suicides though. I mean, i have this "condition" or whatever (not as severe as it sounds, it was the only word i could think of for it) where i hear just a tad better than most people can. Not like a dog or a superhero or something, just better. I can see why people get headaches and nausea but not the whole eyes-and-nose=bleeding or suicides.... lol i think the cure to the lavendertown syndrome is the heartgold soulsilver version :)

  28. Alright, this creepy pasta thing has kinda gotten me to see what this is all about. I took a listen to the Original game track that i extracted from the game and to the computer, there is no hidden frequency or whatnot, also, what is heard in it is a modified tone put into it, and the art of the unknowns is placed into the sheet along with that ghost, that is just the sound effects of unknowns. At the ending though. A low toned pitch was added at the very beginning too that carries out all the way through the song too. All what happened is a pitch hieghtening tone was added and the music was reversed....Creepy Pasta Amen.

  32. Hi all. As someone that has done fair amounts of research into Binaural Beats, I can say that they do have strange capability to alter mind states. However, it is highly unlikely that a binaural beat has the ability to kill, or even cause effects like those iDoser claims. I have done lots of my own research, and they do in fact work, but not to the extent this article claims. Also, the spectral analysis, when it states "Leave Now" is completely fake. The sound was just reversed, and an iDoser sound (correctly labeled as Gates of Hades) was played. The only reason you are unnerved by it is the fact that the sound is meddled, unharmonious, and distorted.

Listen all you want, you aren't going to die. Very clever though, I applaud the creator of this story.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i know, right.. but the unowns? do they really appear in the spectrograph?

    2. If you download the .wav file, open it in audacity, put audacity to spectrogram, and zoom in near the end. They are there.

      Delete
    3. but not as clear as in the video up there, right? i've seen another spectrograph of this .wav file but the ghost appeared was not that clear with all those hands and all. that's clearly the ghost sprite used in the game

  34. I'm not saying I believe it or not, but this isn't the rip with the missing frequencies. He clearly said not even he had listened to it, "To this day I have not listened to the actual audio." He just put up the real time copy of it, he never said this is the one that gave his friend a seizure. Just sayin.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yea its fake. It all originates from Lavender town syndrome. The strange beats that the other anonymous was talking about is true, and could make you feel certain things...but oh well. Search Lavender Town Syndrome. I am very certain that this was just a creepy story to scare most.

If you happen to think about it, putting these in a song for a gamer to make you feel even more unverving is quite brilliant, adds a whole nother scare factor to the game. ALSO if you think of it, its almost like EMF(electro magnetic fields) and how if you are sensetive to it, you can feel as though you are being watched and also headaches ect ect.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes watched the video few times i have to admit i feel weird and my head hurts. i think its not a good idea to listen to it. but its so freaking addicting. game freak might have copied the audio from some weird Japanese town that is very spiritual and the song could be called " death song " thats a thought for you as Japanese are very spiritual.

  52. I've read threw articles that had something similar to this. It was like, a continuation of this, after the guy went through and figured it all out. The song gets really distorted and what not towards the middle, but the unknown start spelling out the things that they do in the ruins during HeartGold and Diamond. It's something about the unknown were here first and that they created all life and the humans erected a pokemon statue for them, something like that.

This is not remarkable, they are simply putting images inside a spectrograph and mixing the frequencies the images make into the song.

  95. Been doing some research now, and yes, some things are real, some things are a lie, just like the cake is a lie in portal and portal 2.
If you want the ghost's origin, go here:

    http://warriorcatsrpg.com/index.php?topic=562214.0

Keep reading until you see Spoiler. Click that, then read all those paragraphs. That is the ghost's origin.
So basicly, this story (Creepy Pasta version) ISN'T real, due to the death note from all those paragraphs on this creepy pasta:

    I
    A
    M
    D
    E
    A
    D

This could be a fake. This could be the real thing. The one thing is that we can track this guy's IP down if he still has his computer, but yet, this is an old rumor. BUT, if the dude that made this creepy past actully died, I feel bad for daht dude. :c

  96. Although it's true it won't kill u instantly from hearing it once. That doesn't mean over exposure won't kill u. To those trying to act tough, put urself in the deadman's shoes. He was said to be obsessed with lavendar town and it's music. imagine the countless hours or days spent dissecting this song. U don't have to believe, but u must accept the possibility.

  97. What if the transmission here is related to the ruins of Alph in Gold and Silver? What if the mysterious transmission in Lavender and Ruins of Alph are related??? FREAKING OUT!!!!

  100. I'm 12 and three quarters; I listened to the music at night alone in a room with earphones in for four minutes. Nothing happened; not a single headache. Youtube can't have the original Green Beta video, because the frequencies are too high to be published. I'm looking for the original one... can't seem to find it. All the videos I've listened to, though, haven't affected me.
    Or I'm immune yolo xD
I will admit, though, that it's definitely not my favorite kind of music. In fact, the tune is depressing and slightly unsettling.

  101. You people have no clue what you are talking about! I listened to this 10 times! Not a single head-ache. Pussies and liars.
